(11 Mar 08 – RV) Recently published studies from climate change scientists in the
United States, Canada and Germany suggest that carbon emissions must cease altogether
within a matter of decades. The findings indicate that both industrialized and developing
nations must wean themselves off fossil fuels by as early as mid-century in order
to prevent further warming that could change precipitation patterns and dry up water
sources worldwide. Spokesperson for CARE International Beatrice Parachini says as
the effects of climate change increase, inequalities between men and women will likely
worsen.
