New Bishop of Cuddapah in India


(Jan. 31, 2008) The Holy Father appointed Rev. Mgr. Prasad Gallela, as the Bishop of Cuddapah (India), on Thursday. Mgr Prasad Gallela is the Spiritual Director and Professor of Philosophy at St. John's Regional Seminary in Kondadaba, in the State of Andhra Pradesh, India. Mgr. Gallela, was born April 7, 1962, in the village of Adoni in the Diocese of Kurnool. After attending St. Pius Minor Seminary in Kurnool, he studied at St. John's Regional Seminary of Hyderabad. He was ordained a priest on 1st of March 1989 and was incardinated in the Diocese of Kurnool. He has served the Diocese in the capacity of Parish Priest and Director for youth and vocations. He did his doctorate in theology at the Pontifical University of St Thomas Aquinas in Rome. The Diocese of Cuddapah has 51 parishes with 82 thousand Catholics. There are 104 priests, 72 seminarians and 280 religious men and women. The Diocese of Cuddapah, had become vacant following the transfer of Bishop Doraboina Moses Prakasam to the Diocese of Nellore, on December 7, 2006.
