Pope Benedict XVI expresses solidarity with flood-hit Angolan people
(Tues.30 Jan.2007):- Pope Benedict XVI expressed his closeness and solidarity to the
people of Angola hit by devastating floods triggered by heavy rains last week. A
condolence telegram sent Jan 30 in the Pontiff’s name by Vatican Secretary of State
– Cardinal Tarciscio Bertone to the Apostolic Nuncio of Angola – Mons Angelo Becciu,
assured the Pope’s prayers for the stricken people and encouraged those who were
assisting the suffering people. Aid workers said Monday that cholera cases have
surged alarmingly after the deadly floods that left thousands without clean drinking
water.
