Bishop of Nellore in South India resigns; New bishop appointed
(07 Dec. 2006) : Pope Benedict XVI on Thursday accepted the resignation of Bishop Pudohota Chinniah Balaswamy of the Diocese of Nellore in the South Indian state of Andhra Pradesh and appointed Bishop Moses Doraboina Prakasam of Cuddapah, as the new bishop of Nellore. Born in Valarpuram in 1928 in Bishop Balaswamy was ordained a priest in 1955 and consecrated bishop on 19th March 1974 for the diocese of Nellore, from where he retires. The new bishop Prakasam of Nellore was born in 1957, ordained a priest in 1983 and was consecrated a bishop on 28th August 2002 for the diocese of Cuddapah in Andhra Pradesh state.
