Pope Benedict XVI appoints new Archpriest of St. Peter's Basilica.


(Wed. 1Nov.2006):-Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Archbishop Angelo Comastri as archpriest of St. Peter's Basilica. He replaces retiring 77-year-old Cardinal Francesco Marchisano. Since February 2005, Archbishop Comastri, has been Vicar General for Vatican City State and president of the office of the Vatican's chief engineer, posts he will retain. 63-year-old Archbishop Comastri, who acknowledges himself as a spiritual son of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, wrote the meditations for this year's Good Friday Way of the Cross at the Colosseum. The archbishop preached the Lenten spiritual exercises in the presence of late Pope John Paul II and the Roman Curia in March 2003, and he is the former archbishop of the National Shrine of Loreto in Italy.
