Cardinal Dziwisz offers memoir of life with John Paul II
(3 Oct: 2006): Polish Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz of Krakow, the longtime private secretary
to Pope John Paul II , has written a book titled – “ A Life with Karol”. It will
be published in Italy in 2007. The Cardinal's book will cover the 40 years that he
spent at the side of the late Pope, first in Krakow and later in Rome. The Italian
publisher, Rizzoli, offered some previews of the material in an interview with Italian
journalist Gian Franco Svidercoschi. Recalling the day of the Pope's funeral, the
cardinal reveals that he was struck with the realization that he would never see
his mentor and friend again in this life. He relates that he did everything slowly
to make it last longer, wanting to put off his final goodbye. Cardinal Dziwisz has
already published his account of the late Pontiff's last days, “Lasciatemi Andare,”
(italian) or “Let me go”. It was published March 2006 by St. Paul editions in Italy.
The new book offers his own personal recollections of life with Pope John Paul II.
