Vatican announces Pope’s official entourage for upcoming trip
(31 Aug. 2006) : As Pope Benedict XVI’s upcoming trip to Germany, to his homeland of Bavaria, from 9th to 14th September approaches, the Holy See has indicated about 29 people who will form his official entourage. Among those travelling with the Holy Father are his personal secretary, Msgr. Georg Ganswein, Pope’s personal physician, technical staff as well as security personnel. The group also includes various bishops and three cardinals of the Roman Curia, the most notable of whom will be Cardinal Angelo Sodano. For Cardin Sodano this trip will be his last in his official capacity as the Holy See’s Secretary of State. Cardinal Sodano is set to retire on September 15th and on the same day the newly appointed Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone from the Archdiocese Genoa, will take charge of the Secretariat.
