In India Arbishop Gracias urges media to harness power for Gospel’s service

“Harness the power of media for gospel’s service,” urged Archbishop Oswald Gracias of Agra at the inaugural session of the national conference on Catholic communications, begun at Don Bosco Specialised Training Centre in New Delhi on August 2nd. The theme of the two-day conference is: “A Communicating Church Looking Ahead”.

Chairman of the CBCI Commission for Social Communications, Archbishop Gracias further said, “The communications media are God’s special gifts to humanity and Catholic communicators need to make the best use of these gifts for the benefit of the Church. In order to do that, all leaders of the community – clergy and laity should get adequate training in communications so that they can effectively discharge their duties for evangelization and defence of the genuine interests of the Church and society,” the prelate added. “We need to encourage all church personnel to get adequate training to communicate the Gospel more effectively and foster better relationships with the public. For this, we need to integrate communications in to all church apostolates, such as biblical, liturgical and social,” insisted the noted Canon Law expert Archbishop.

Other members participating the national conference are: Bishop Godfrey de Rozario, six bishop chairmen of the regional commissions, twelve regional secretaries for communications, presidents of Signis India, Indian Catholic Press Association, All India Catholic Union and some media personnel.
