(June 14, 2006) : The Movement for Family Love has organized an evening of prayer
for Pope Benedict XVI. It will be held in St. Peter's Square on June 16. Archbishop
Angelo Comastri, the vicar general for Vatican City, will preside. The Movement for
Family Love explained that the effort was a response to the Pontiff’s request for
prayers on behalf of his ministry. The evening will include the recitation of the
Rosary and a candlelight procession under the window of the papal apartment in the
apostolic palace. Since the start of his pontificate, Pope Benedict has made it
a point of asking frequently for prayers. On April 19, 2006, when he marked the anniversary
of his election to the papacy, he remarked: "I always knew that I would not be able
to carry out this job-- this mission-- alone." The Pope offered his heartfelt thanks
to all those who, in various ways, remain with him in spirit, and follow him from
afar, with their affection and prayers.
