9,300 volunteers poised to help in Valencia for 5th World Family Meeting


(13 June 2006) : While the Catholics in Spain are eagerly waiting to receive Pope Benedict on 8 and 9 July, religious leaders in Spanish city of Valencia are busy preparing for the fifth World Meeting of Families from 1st to 9th July. 9,300 volunteers ranging from 15 to 84 years of age from 44 countries have already registered to assist at the World Meeting. Almost 8,000 of the registered volunteers are Spanish, the event's Volunteer Office announced. Most of the remaining 1,300 volunteers come from Europe and Latin America. Some come from Africa and Asia. Among the volunteers are 530 involved in the health sector and 200 media professionals. About 150 retirees will also work as volunteers. An additional 1,000 volunteers will work in the accreditation of pilgrims, and some 1,500 in the liturgical ceremonies. Several hundred volunteers will be assigned to the International Theological-Pastoral Congress on the Family and the International Fair of Families which will be held in Valencia's fairgrounds.
