Explore possibility of using FM Radio and Internet Broadcasting says Archbishop Gracias of Agra to communicators.


(March 13, 2006) : “With the great technological progress taking place in media, we should explore the possibility of using FM Radio and Internet broadcasting”, declared chairman of CBCI Commission for Social Communications Archbishop Oswald Gracias of Agra. Archbishop Gracias delivered his address to the plenary assembly of Signis India which was held on 8th and 9th March at the world-renowned Vailankanni Marian Shrine in South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Encouraging the Catholic media organisation to enlist greater participation from lay media professionals, Archbishop Gracias who is also the President of Conference of Catholic Bishops of India, CCBI- Latin Rite, affirmed, “We should attempt to have greater participation from our lay media professionals, both in the Communications’ ministry and also in our Organizations. For this, young talent should be identified and encouraged,” he underlined. The prelate recalled the initiatives taken by the CBCI during the 2004 Plenary Assembly that discussed Social Communications as its main theme in order to promote communications apostolates. At the request of the CBCI, a National Pastoral Plan for Communications had been prepared and the Catholic Communications’ Survey had been conducted. Archbishop Gracias emphasised that the results of this survey were important when planning the work of Signis India, which would make our Catholic Communications effort to be more effective.
