Putting Up Barriers to Education

(30 August 2005 - RV) Church leaders in Jerusalem have expressed concern about the ongoing progress of Israel's controversial security barrier. Nearly 20,000 Palestinian schoolchildren will be prevented from reaching their schools in arab East Jerusalem by the barrier. Father Maajdi Syriani is the director for the Patriarchate of Jerusalem's diocesan schools. He says that the educational system in East Jerusalem faces a catastrophe because of the security barrier.
