Pope’s upcoming itinerary in Bangladesh


Pope Francis Thursday afternoon (Nov.30) bade farewell to Myanmar and flew to Dhaka, the capital of neighbouring Bangladesh, on the second leg of his 21st apostolic visit outside Italy.  He arrived in Yangon, Myanmar, on Monday (Nov. 27), and will fly back from Dhaka to Rome Saturday evening.

After a welcome ceremony at Dhaka airport on Thursday the Pope visited the National Martyr’s Memorial in Savar where he laid floral wreath and planted a sapling in the “Garden of Peace”.  From there he was driven to the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum, the former residence of the founding father and the first president of the nation, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of present Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina.  There too he laid a floral wreath in memory of Mujibur Rahman adn later signed the Book of Honour. 

From the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum the Pope was driven to Bangabhavan, the presidential palace, where he held a private meeting with President Abdul Hamid. 

The Pope’s most important appointment of Thursday was his address to authorities, the diplomatic corps and members of civil society.
