Ghanaian Police Assistant Commissioner, Fr. George, prays for peace

Ghanaians vote, Wednesday 7 December, in a tightly contested Presidential election that has pitched President John Mahama and his rival Nana Akufo Addo.

A Ghanaian Catholic Priest, Fr. George Arthur, who is an Assistant Commissioner of Police and the Director of the Religious Affairs Directorate at the Ghana Police Service, has appealed to Ghanaians not do anything that would endanger the peace of the nation.  

Fr. George said war-torn countries on the continent should be a constant reminder of the importance of peace.

“We should never make any attempt to experiment with ethnic conflict or war. Should any Ghanaian do so, our generation as well as future generations will deeply regret this,” said the priest.

In a sermon at a Pre-elections Prayer Crusade at the forecourt of the Police Headquarters in Accra, Fr. George cautioned supporters of various candidates to remain calm after the Electoral Commission declares the official election results.

The Pre-elections Prayer Crusade by the Police Religious Affairs Directorate (RAD) was on the theme: Jesus Said To Them Again, Peace be With You.

The Crusade was organised for personnel of the Police Service and attended by the Inspector General of Police, Dr John Kudalor as well as other senior security officers and Chaplains of Ghana’s security services, among others. 

The Crusade was to thank God for the gift of peace prevailing in the nation; the lives of police personnel and to pray for free, fair and peaceful elections as well as for God’s guidance, protection and direction for all those involved in conducting the general election. 

Fr. Arthur cautioned supporters of the various political parties to avoid violence and lawlessness. He also urged all police officers and law enforcement officials to exhibit a high sense of professionalism, non-partisanship, non-biasness, uphold the rule of law and to respect the fundamental human rights of every individual.
