Son of Mexican drug cartel leader confirmed as abduction victim

(Vatican Radio) Mexican authorities confirm that one of six men abducted at gunpoint from a restaurant in the international vacation resort of Puerto Vallarta is a son of the jailed leader of the Sinaloa drug cartel. Another of his sons may have also been taken at the same time.

Listen to James Blears’ reports:

The Jalisco State attorney general`s office says forensic evidence found in a car at the parking lot of the restaurant confirms that Jesus Alfredo Guzman was abducted. They also say one of his brothers, Ivan, may have been simultaneously abducted. The gunmen who did this are from the Jalisco New Generation drug cartel, which are rivals and sworn enemies of the Sinaloa drug cartel.  So far, no ransom demand has been issued since the incident, which occurred  in the early hours of Monday morning.

Their father, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, is in jail fighting extradition to the United States. Another of his sons, Edgar, was ambushed and assassinated in the parking lot of a shopping mall in 2008.  What happens next concerning this incident could have a direct correlation on a profound catalytic reaction across the region and nationwide.
