Catholic television station begins live broadcasting in the Philippines

(Vatican Radio) In the Philippines, a new Catholic television station - TV María - officially launched its live broadcasting on Friday, August 14, from its headquarters in the Caritas compound located in Pandacan, Manila.

The Archbishop of Manila, Luís Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle, opened the broadcast  by saying the television station, available online and via satellite, is not “about ratings, publicity, or image-building,” but an apostolate aimed at making God’s work known.

“This is our mission. Through us, His Church, God talks to us … God is a God of communication. God is not self-absorbed. He revealed Himself to us … And we as Church continues what God has started,” said Cardinal Tagle in Filipino.

According to the Cardinal, the Philippine Catholic channel is taking its cue from the first generation of Christian evangelizers, exploiting the means at its disposal.

“The ancient Christians created paintings and murals depicting scenes from the Bible. They did this in order to educate others on the faith … Using today’s technology, TV María is doing the same,” he explained.
