Blind Catholics in Malawi to get support

(Vatican Radio) In Malawi, blind or visually impaired people will be supplied with necessary stationery, in a plan aiming to boost participation in Church activities.

The Association of Visually Impaired Catholic Christians (AVICC) manager, Samson Chima, said the organization’s members have the capacity and willingness to contribute to the church but they are impeded by the lack of access to material and information, which they will now provide.

Chima said that because “members are not given enough information on the Catholic teachings and values”, they tend to join other Christian faiths.

Father Henry Chinkanda, who was speaking on behalf of the episcopal conference of Malawi (ECM), said that the Catholic Church in Malawi is “pleased to have this association”, since before it began in 2013, there were no channels to reach out and assist members.

“We heard your idea to form an association some time back and today we are pleased to note that it has been materialised. This will make it easy for the church to reach out to you”, Father Chinkanda told the AVICC.
