Pope gives assent to election of Maronite Bishop


(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis has given his Assent, in conformity with canon 185 § 1 of the CCEO (Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches) to the canonical election, by the Synod of Bishops of the Patriarchal Maronite Church, of Father Paul Abdel Sater as a Bishop of the Patriarchal Curia. Father Sater has been serving as Syncellus for Economic Affairs for the Archeparchy of Beirut and Pastor of the Parish of Saint Jean in Beirut.

Curriculum vitae of Paul Abdel Sater

Father Paul Abdel Sater was born 20 September 1962 in Aïn El Rmmaneh. After receiving his baccalaureate in theology from the “Saint Esprit” University in Kaslik, he continued his studies in Boston, in the United States, where he specialized in moral theology and education science.

Ordained a priest on 29 June 1987 for the Archeparchy of Beirut of the Maronites, he undertook for one year the office of secretary of the Archbishop, before being sent to the United States to specialize in theology.

Having returned to Lebanon, Father Sater was named vice-Pastor and then Pastor of “Sacré Cœur” Church in Beirut. At the same time he undertook the duties of director of two schools in the Eparchy of Beirut: “La Sagesse” in Aïn El Remmaneh and “La Sagesse” of AchrafiehI.

Father Sater recently assumed several new charges: Eparchal bursar, Syncellus for economic affairs, and Pastor of “Saint Jean” in Beirut, while taking courses at the “La Sagesse” University in Beirut.
