S Korea: Auxiliary Bishop appointed for Suwon Diocese


(Vatican Radio) The Holy Father on Thursday appointed Fr. John Baptist Moon Hee Jong, presently Pastor and Director of the diocesan Department for Evangelization and Professor of the Major Seminary, as Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Suwon, Korea, assigning him the titular see of Muzia.

Rev. John Baptist Moon Hee Jong, was born on August 26, 1966, in Gyeonggi-do, Diocese of Suwon. He studied at the Major Seminary in Suwon (1984-1988 and then 1991-1993, after finishing his military service). He was ordained a priest on 21 January 1994.

After ordination he held the following positions:

1994-1995: assistant priest of the parish of Bisan-dong;

1995-1996: assistant priest of the parish of Cheolsan;

1996-1997: assistant priest of the parish of Hogye-dong;

1997-1999: Pastor of Paengsung;

1999-2001: Spiritual Director of the Catholic University of Suwon (seminary);

2001-2006: Studies at the Pontifical University of St. Anselm in Rome, where he obtained his Licentiate in Liturgy, residing at the College of the same university;

Since 2006: Diocesan Director of the Department for Evangelization and professor at the Major Seminary;

Since 2014: also Pastor of the parish of O-Bon-Dong.
