Arrests made in FIFA corruption scandal


(Vatican Radio) The United States has indicted number of FIFA executives in Zurich, Switzerland, following investigations into alleged bribery and corruption involving US bank accounts.  Advertising executives have also been charged in the United States.

At present 14 people have been indicted by the United States Department of Justice with an initial 47 charges laid.  Six FIFA executives who were arrested in their hotel rooms in Zurich have said that they intend to fight US extradition attempts over the alleged bribery and corruption.  The investigation is ongoing and it is very possible that more charges may be laid against a number of people as more information is uncovered.
