Horrifying tragedy of the migrants nobody wants

(Vatican Radio) The plight of the Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar and migrants from Bangladesh and their brutal treatment at the hands of people smugglers has been in the international spotlight in recent weeks.

Earlier this month, Thailand began cracking down on the routes used by the smugglers to move these migrants through its territory while Malaysia has begun exhuming bodies suspected to be migrants buried in mass graves.

Kiri Kankhwende is the spokesperson for Christian Solidarity Worldwide, an NGO that campaigns for everyone’s right to freedom of religion and belief.  She told Susy Hodges that the discovery of the mass graves is “horrifying” and just one part of a wider picture of a human rights crisis affecting migrants not just in Asia but also in the Mediterranean. She said "the world needs to come together" to tackle this crisis as a matter of urgency.
