Caritas Internationalis (CI) is the confederation of 165 national Catholic charities working at the grassroots levels in almost every country of the world. Caritas Internationalis has its headquarters in Rome from where it co-ordinates emergency operations, formulates development policy and advocates for a better world for everyone.
Over 400 Caritas delegates from across the globe had gathered in Rome, May 12-17, for their 20th General Assembly on the theme, “One Human Family, Caring for Creation”. Indian Jesuit priest Fr. Cedric Prakash from the Gujarat Jesuit province, was invited as an expert to deliver a keynote address at the Caritas assembly on “growing inequalities: a challenge to the one human family.” A well-known human rights and peace activist, Fr. Prakash is the director of PRASHANT, a human rights centre in Ahmedabad run by the Jesuits. Because of his activism, he has been honoured with several Indian and international awards. A prolific writer with regular contributions to newspapers and journals, Fr. Prakash is much sought after by groups and organizations to speak on human rights, justice and peace. After the conclusion of Caritas Internationalis general assembly last Sunday, we called Fr. Cedric Prakash on the phone to know more about the meeting.
