Pope Francis meets privately with President of Ecuador

(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis on Tuesday met privately with Ecuador’s President Rafael Correa, who was attending a climate change workshop organized by the Pontifical Academies of Science and Social Sciences.

No statement was issued about the meeting, but the Ecuadorian President tweeted about the encounter, stating: “I cannot believe the opportunities life has given to me!”

President Correa also said Pope Francis expressed his love for Ecuador.

The Holy Father will visit Ecuador in July. The trip is part of a three-country South American visit, which will also include Bolivia and Paraguay.
