Pope Francis nominates Rev. Brendan Cahill as Bishop of the Diocese of Victoria


(Vatican Radio)  Pope Francis has nominated Father Brendan Cahill as bishop of the Diocese of Victoria in Texas, USA.

The Holy Father also accepted the resignation of Bishop David E. Fellhauer, the former bishop of Victoria, according to Canon 401 §1 of the Code of Canon Law.

Biography

Bishop-elect Brendan Cahill was born November 28, 1963 at Coral Gables, Florida in the Archdiocese of Miami. 

He obtained a Bachelor’s in Psychology in 1985 and a Master’s of Divinity in 1990 at St. Mary’s Seminary/University of St. Thomas in Houston.  He later obtained another Master’s in Afro-American Studies from Xavier University in New Orleans in 1993.

 He continued his studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, receiving a Licentiate in 1996 and a Doctorate in 1999 in Dogmatic Theology.

He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston on May 19, 1990.  

He was also the head of the Priest Personnel Board and a member of the Presbiterial Council.
