The corkscrew dome swirling high over Rome's skyline

(Vatican Radio) The Church of ‘ Sant'Ivo alla Sapienza’ is a masterful baroque architectural wonder created by Borromini between 1642 and 1660. ‘Sant’Ivo’ relates to Saint Yves and 'Sapienza' to the fact that there was once a University chapel here. But the most striking element perhaps is the swirling corkscrew dome which in a way interrupts the softness of the Roman skyline rife with its rounded church domes. Veronica Scarisbrick once went there with Professor of Fine Arts Breda Ennis to take a closer look.
