Holy Saturday: a picture of the forgiving God

(Vatican Radio) Monsignor Peter Fleetwood brings us a timely reflection for Holy Saturday. He tells us how the day between Good Friday and Easter Saturday, which we call Holy Saturday, is there to make us stop and think.

The image of Jesus visiting the spirits of people wicked enough to refuse to believe in God should make us think very hard before condemning anyone to hell or even thinking someone belongs there. It is a touching picture of God desperate to have those people back, as if their time of exile is over and God wants them  to come home. They have paid the price of their wickedness in God's eyes - perhaps we humans can never be that forgiving, but that is the picture of God on Holy Saturday.
