Tunisia museum to open one week after deadly attack

(Vatican Radio) The Bardo Museum in Tunisia will re-open later -- just a week after at least 22 people were killed in the building.

There are fears the attack will hit Tunisia's vital tourism industry.

Listen to Nathan Morley’s report:

Meanwhile, Tunisian Prime Minister Habib Essid fired six police commanders on Monday, including the head of tourist security, after the militant attack on the national museum last Wednesday.

Militant gunmen killed 20 foreign tourists, including Japanese, Polish, Italian and Spanish visitors, as they got off buses at the Bardo Museum, inside the normally heavily-guarded parliament compound.

It was the worst attack in more than a decade in Tunisia, coming four years after the revolt that overthrew autocrat Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali and opened the way for free elections.
