Chiara Lubich: Revisiting her legacy 7 years on

(Vatican Radio) March the 14th marks the 7th anniversary of the death of Chiara Lubich, the founder of the Focolari, an international movement, inspired by the gospel, which works for unity in all spheres of life. As part of the anniversary commemorations, the movement has organized a special worldwide event this weekend, focusing on the impact of the “Spirituality of Unity” in the field of politics.

Born in northern Italy, Lubich was a consecrated laywoman who set up the International Centre for the Focolari Movement at Rocca di Papa near Rome.  Pope Francis says Lubich ignited for the Church a new light on the path towards unity and the cause for her beatification was formally opened in January 2015.

Tim King is a member of the Focolari’s General Council at their headquarters and he spoke to Susy Hodges about Lubich’s important spiritual legacy.

Listen to the full interview with Tim King of the Focolari Movement:

King pays tribute to Chiara Lubich’s "enormous influence," her spiritual legacy and speaks of her “talent for communicating with everybody.” One of the Focolari’s central themes is the question of dialogue and he says Lubich was "an exemplary figure" in this respect and he believes her impact is still growing.  “Her outreach and her influence are increasing now.”  King says those joining the Focolari movement are being offered a challenge and a stake in trying to “transform the world” and promote peace.
