Emeritus Bishop Bhalerao of Nashik passes away


Retired Indian bishop of Nashik, Thomas Bhalerao, passed away on Friday, the Catholic Bishops Conference of India has said.  The 82-year old Jesuit Bishop passed away on Feb. 13 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Sreerampur.  His funeral was held on Saturday at St. Mary’s Church, Sangamner, Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, his native town, where he was born on June 20, 1933.  After joining the Jesuits in 1953, he was ordained a priest in 1965.  When St. John Paul II created the Diocese of Nashik on 15 May, 1987, he appointed Fr. Bhalerao its first bishop.  He was ordained bishop on August 23, that year.  He retired on March 31, 2007.  (Source: CBCI)
