Austere notes to mark Ash Wednesday

(Vatican Radio) In the  season of Lent we join Our Lord Jesus in his fast for forty days. While it's a joyful season it's also austere. An austerity,says music historian  Monsignor Philp Whitmore, which is reflected in our liturgy.

However throughout Lent we never lose sight of the goal that lies ahead of us and by our fasting and penance we prepare to celebrate the great feast of Easter with minds and hearts renewed.
