Colombia’s President urges guerillas to let child soldiers go home

(Vatican Radio) Colombia's President is urging the country's largest guerrilla Army to not only stop recruiting child soldiers, but to also to send those they've got, home to their families.

James Blears reports:

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said that the announcement from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia- the FARC... to stop recruiting children under the age of seventeen into its ranks, is certainly a step in the right direction.

President Santos who's been visiting the South Western City of Florencia, stressed that this action is evil and cruel, as there's nothing worse than teaching a child how to kill.  He wants the child soldiers the FARC already has, to be allowed to go home.

Santos also talked about the two year ongoing peace process in Havana, Cuba, which is still trying to end a conflict, which started back in 1964. In the more than 50 years which have ensued, tens of thousands have died, hundreds of thousands have been maimed, millions have been displaced and the Country of Colombia has suffered grievously.
