Search resumes for AirAsia plane

(Vatican Radio/agencies) Calmer seas and better weather Monday allowed divers to resume looking for the wreckage of AirAsia flight 8501.  The Airbus 320 with 162 people on board disappeared off radar screens December 28 on route from Indonesia to Singapore. At least 34 bodies have been recovered so far.

An international effort to recover the bodies of the remaining victims and the black boxes has widened the search area to 90 kms to allow for currents which over the past 8 days could have carried debris far from the crash site.  Five large objects – including one 18 meters long - are believed to be parts of the plane and have been pinpointed in shallow waters off the coast of Borneo.  No "pings" emanating from the black boxes have been picked up by search teams.
