Visit to Haiti 5 years after earthquake by Cor Unum President

(Vatican Radio)  Cardinal Robert Sarah, President of the Pontifical Council “Cor Unum,” will visit Haiti from 25th to 29th November to show solidarity with those who are still struggling to rebuild their lives nearly five years on from the nation’s devastating earthquake that killed around 230 thousand people.  During his visit the cardinal will officially inaugurate the “Notre Dame des Anges” school in Leogane that was built with the help of donations sent directly to the Pope in the wake of the earthquake.  Cardinal Sarah’s engagements during his visit also include a meeting with Haiti’s president, with representatives of Caritas Haiti and with the local bishops, clergy, religious and laity.

Pope Francis had expressed his desire to organize a conference on Haiti in the Vatican to maintain the spotlight on the nation’s ongoing humanitarian catastrophe on the fifth anniversary of the quake and this conference is scheduled to take place on 10th January 2015.
