Mexico summons Uruguay ambassador over presidential comments

(Vatican Radio) The ongoing turmoil in Mexico over the disappearance of 43 student-teachers has spilled into the diplomatic sphere, with Mexico summoning Uruguay's ambassador after Uruguayan President Jose Mujica said that the students’ disappearance suggests the country is a failed state. Speaking to Foreign Affairs Latin America in a piece that appeared on Friday, Mujica said of the situation, “It gives one the sense, seen from a distance, that this is a kind of failed state, in which public authorities have completely lost control.” Mexico's foreign ministry said in a statement on Sunday it was "surprised and categorically rejects some of the comments expressed in the interview." Later that same day, however, Mujica offered expressions of solidarity with Mexico and countries such as Honduras and Guatemala, where drug trafficking weighs on national security.
