Pope Francis meets Estela de Carlotto, President of “Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo”

(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis on Wednesday met with Estela de Carlotto, President of “Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo,” a human rights organization with the goal of finding children taken from the families of the “disappeared” during Argentina’s military dictatorship,  who were later secretly adopted. She was accompanied by her missing grandson, Ignacio Guido Montoya Carlotto, whose identity was confirmed via a DNA test earlier this year. His mother, Laura Carlotto, had been killed shortly after his birth in 1978. He also met other members of the Carlotto family.

The family gave the Pope a poncho and CD of music composed by Ignacio, who is a musician, and a scarf worn by members of the “Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo.”
