'Vatican Weekend' for November 8, 2014

(Vatican Radio) 'Vatican Weekend' for November 8, 2014 features a report on the weekly general audience of Pope Francis with pilgrims from across the world, an interview with a priest on the front line in the fight against Ebola. He's Monsignor Bob Vitillo special advisor for health and HIV for Caritas Internationalis who recently returned from a visit to Liberia, one of the worst affected countries by the outbreak together with Sierra Leone and Guinea. On a different note as we mark the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall on Sunday November 9, 2014 we catch a glimpse of what life was like behind the iron curtain prior to that event in an interview with Monsignor Leo Maasburg, currently  National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Austria, who  shares with Veronica Scarisbrick his experience in assisting the underground Church in Slovakia during those years of communist repression. Finally stepping back even further in time, to mark the anniversary of the end of the First World War which falls on November 11, we join historian Professor Gerald Fogarty SJ  who shines the spotlight for us on the role the United States played during that period and how it would shape its future image during the Second World War.
