Ebola virus under the spotlight


(Vatican Radio) South Africa and Senegal have announced they are banning travellers from Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone from entering their territories as fears of the Ebola outbreak in West Africa grow.

Elsewhere, In Ireland, the Health Ministry said Thursday laboratory tests are being carried out on a suspected case of Ebola in deceased person who recently returned from Africa. The news comes as  the World Health Organisation says it will convene talks September 4-5 in Geneva on potential treatments and vaccines to contain the Ebola outbreak.

Meanwhile,

Two American aid workers infected with the Ebola virus have been discharged from a hospital in Atlanta.

Doctors at Emory University say Kent Brantley and Nancy Writebol have been fully cured, and pose no threat to society.

Dr. Bruce Ribner, the Medical Director of Emory University Hospital, says his team learned lessons that could prove useful in the global battle against the virus.
