Archbishop Martinelli: Pray for peace in Libya

(Vatican Radio) The Apostolic Vicar of Tripoli, Archbishop Giovanni Innocenzo Martinelli, is appealing for prayers amid continuing violence in the country. Militant fighters overran a Libyan special forces base near the eastern city of Benghazi yesterday after a battle involving rockets and warplanes that killed at least 30 people.

Meanwhile, up to 100 people were also killed in fighting between rival militias battling for control of Tripoli's main airport in the past week.

Archbishop Martinelli says the Christian community is actively providing medical support.

“I am thinking about the Filipinos especially in the hospitals…” He goes to ask English speaking people to pray as he says, “there is no other way”.

It reports that 30 refugees were killed Sunday during militia raids are among the refugee camps.

The refugees from Ethiopia Eritrea Somalia and Sudan are being used as mules to carry ammunition and weapons, endangering their lives of these people.
