CRS: Frightened Gazan civilians are bracing for mounting casualties

Vatican Radio)  As Israel presses ahead with its ground offensive against militants in the Gaza strip, what is the mood like among the inhabitants of the territory? To find out, Susy Hodges spoke to Bassam Nasser, a native Gazan who is the Field Manager there for Catholic Relief Services, or CRS.

Listen to the full interview with Bassam Nasser of CRS:

Nasser says the local population is "frightened" because in Gaza "there is nowhere" to run and hide from the Israeli air bombardments and artillery strikes and therefore the people are bracing  for many more casualties and greater destruction of homes and property.  Asked how people there are managing to obtain food and water amid the fighting, he says there is still running water in the taps although it is not fit to drink and so water tankers tour the streets to provide water to the residents and when it comes to food people are largely only venturing out after sunset to procure food because it is the holy month of Ramadan for Moslems.
