Pope accepts resignation of Bishop of Multan, Pakistan


Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of  Pakistani Bishop Andrew Francis from the responsibility of his Diocese of Multan.  According to canon law, bishops retire on reaching the age of 75, but 67-year old bishop Francis stepped down for health reasons.  At the same time, the Holy Father has appointed as Apostolic Administrator of Multan, Fr. Benny Travas of Karachi Archdiocese.  He will govern the diocese in the name of the Supreme Pontiff.     Bishop Andrew Francis was born on 29 Nov., 1946, in Adah, and ordained priest in 1972.  Pope John Paul appointed him Bishop of Multan in 1999.
