Uganda Foreign Minister elected UN General Assembly President

(Vatican Radio) The Foreign Minister of Uganda, Sam Kutesa, said on Wednesday he will push forward the Post-2015 development agenda as the newly elected President of the 69th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations.

"We shall have to address the means of implementation, in terms of financial resources, technology development, transfer and capacity-building,” he said. This will require a strengthened global partnership. Our ultimate objective should be to formulate a transformative agenda that supports global solutions, guides national development efforts, and empowers people to improve their livelihoods and determine their own future."

Kutesa, who ran unopposed, begins his term in September.
