New Bishops for Indonesia and Philippines


The Holy Father on Tuesday appointed Fr. Daniel Patrick Y. Parcon, a priest of the Diocese of San Carlos and Rector of St. John Vianney Seminary of San Carlos City, Bishop of Talibon, in Philippines, and Fr. Antonius Subianto Bunyamin, O.S.C., Prior Provincial of the Order of the Holy Cross in Bandung, as Bishop of Bandung, Indonesia.  

51 year old Bishop elect Daniel Patrick Y. Parcon was born in Vallehermoso, Negros Oriental, in the diocese of San Carlos. He completed theology at St. Joseph Regional Seminary Jaro, Iloilo City. He has a Masters in Educational Management and a Masters degree also in  Religious Education from the Fordham University in the U.S.

He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of San Carlos in 1994 and has worked as a pastor in the United States of America, before returning to his motherland and since 2007 he has been the Rector of St John Mary Philosophy Seminary of San Carlos City holding the Charge of Marriage and Family Life Apostolate in the Diocese of San Carlos. During the recent vacant see of the local church he was the diocesan administrator.

45 year old, Fr. Bunyamin, O.S.C., hails from Bandung. He joined the Order of the Holy Cross and completed his studies in philosophy and theology at the Catholic University in Bandung.

He was ordained a priest in 1996. He has been a Professor of Philosophy , the Vice Provincial for the congregation and professor at the Catholic University in Bandung;  he was the Executive Director of the Holy Cross Foundation  and from 2010 he has been the Prior Provincial of the Order of the Holy Cross.

The Diocese of Bandung, suffragan of Jakarta, has an area of more than 23,447 sq km, more than 29 million inhabitants, of whom about 90,000 Catholics; 23 parishes, 100 priests (33 diocesan and 67 religious), 5 religious brothers, 140 religious sisters and 23 major seminarians.
