EU leaders begin talks on Union review

(Vatican Radio) Ukraine's newly elected president, billionaire chocolate factory owner Petro Poroshenko, wants to sign a landmark trade deal with the European Union soon after his inauguration as head of state.

The proposed trade agreement with the EU has been at the

heart of Ukraine's political crisis over the past six months since former Moscow-backed president Viktor Yanukovich turned his back on the accord at the last minute, deciding rather to seek a $15 billion bailout
from Russia. That decision triggered protests that led to him being ousted.

Meanwhile,

EU leaders are to begin their own consultations on ways of changing the Union, in the wake of major gains by far right and Eurosceptic parties in recent European parliamentary elections. Listen to Nathan Morley's report
