Africa’s newest cardinals named to serve as members in five Decasteries of the Roman Curia


Pope Francis on 22 May named the cardinals he created in February as members in the various Decasteries of the Roman Curia. The two new Cardinals from Africa will serve as members in five out of the 12 Decasteries mentioned in Thursday’s statement.

The Archbishop of Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso), Cardinal Philippe Nakellentuba Ouédraogo was named as a member of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and the Pontifical Council for Inter-religious Dialogue. Ivorian Cardinal Jean-Pierre Kutwa of Abidjan will serve as a member of the Congregation  for the Institutes of Consecrated Life and the Societies of Apostolic Life; the Pontifical Council for the Laity and the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace.

Below is the complete list of cardinals named in the various councils and congregations:

- appointed as members of the dicasteries of the Roman Curia the following cardinals, created during the consistory of 22 February 2014:
