Pope mourns the death of Cardinal Marco C'E'

(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis on Tuesday paid tribute to “the mild and wise shepherd of the Church”, Cardinal Marco C’E’,who died on Monday 12 May, 2014.

In a telegramme addressed to the Patriarch Francesco Moraglia of Venice, the Pope expressed his sadness for the death of Cardinal C’E’and his closeness to the entire diocesan community and to the family and friends of the late Patriarch Emeritus.

Recalling the Cardinal’s joyous service to the Gospel and his tender love for the Church, the Pope spoke of his work in the diocese of his hometown, Crema, followed by his service as Auxiliary Bishop of Bologna where he flanked Cardinal Poma, his militancy in the lay association “Azione Cattolica”, before being appointed Patriarch of the Church in Venice. Pope Francis also recalled Cardinal C’E’s dedicated service to the clergy when Pope Benedict invited him to preach Lenten Spiritual Excercises in 2006.

Finally the Pope assured the people of Venice of his prayers to the Lord so that His faithful servant be received in the heavenly Jerusalem, and he imparted his Apostolic Blessing.
