(Vatican Radio) This coming Sunday, the 27th of April both Pope John Paul
II and Pope John the XXIIIwill be canonized by the Holy Father. Prefect
of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura Cardinal Raymond Burke spoke to
us about what it means for the Church to have these two new Saints and how they have
impacted on his life. On the figure of Blessed John XXIII Cardinal Burke says,
“he was a most venerable figure also because he captured so much the imagination of
the world. I remember him very well for that his amiable figure, this good father
for the whole Church.” The Cardinal goes on to reflect on high school memories of
the then Pope opening the Second Vatican Council describing it as a “momentous time” Speaking
about Blessed Pope John Paul II, Cardinal Burke says, this Pope was a great inspiration
to him and he adds, “it was he who ordained me a Bishop on January 6th
1995”. So, he says for that reason he has a particular bond with this soon to be Saint.
