Easter greetings from Indian President, PM


April 21, 2014 - The Indian President and Prime Minister have greeted the nation on the occasion of Easter wishing that the commemoration of Christ’s resurrection inspire people in the path of love, truth, sacrifice and unity. In a brief message issued by President Pranab Mukherjee wrote: "On the joyous occasion of Easter, I extend my greetings and best wishes to my countrymen, especially to all my Christian brothers and sisters in India and abroad. "May the celebration of Christ's resurrection be an occasion that inspires us to follow the path of love, truth, sacrifice and forgiveness. Let us learn from the teachings of Jesus Christ and work together to advance the common good of all," he wrote. "May this festival instil in us a sense of feeling of unity and reinforce our commitment to the well-being and prosperity of our nation," the Indian President added.

Meanwhile, the office Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also released a message saying, “the significance of Christ's resurrection is that truth and love triumphs over evil and hatred. Easter celebrates compassion and brotherhood and signifies a brighter future.” “May the celebrations strengthen the bonds of unity among our countrymen,” the Prime Minister said.

In India, a secular democracy, a few festivals and observances of various faiths are observed as public holidays, such as Good Friday and Christmas.
