Pope gifting thousands of pocket Gospels at Sunday's 'Angelus'
April 04, 2014 - Pope Francis will be gifting thousands of pocket Gospels during
his weekly midday ‘Angelus’ prayer in Rome’s St. Peter’s Square this Sunday. The
Pope has several times called on Christians to often read and meditate on the Word
of God, and Sunday’s initiative is a strong incentive towards this. In a similar
initiative several months ago, the Pope had Divine Mercy rosaries distributed free
at a Sunday ‘Angelus’. An initiative of The Office of Papal Charities, the Gospels
will be distributed by scouts, seminarians, Sisters of Charity of mother Teresa and
other volunteers. The special edition of the Gospel printed by the Vatican Press,
contains the four Gospels and the Acts of the Apostles. It is prefaced with a quote
from Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation, “Evangelii Gaudium” (The Joy of the Gospel),
and has also a guide to the recitation of the Divine Mercy rosary and a prayer of
Blessed Cardinal John Henry Newman which Mother Teresa recommended her nuns to recite
each day.
