April, 3, 2014: Pope Francis on Thursday authorized the Congregation for the Causes
of Saints to promulgate decrees of acceptance of a miracle each through the intercession
two Indians, an Indian priest and a nun paving the way for their sainthood.
They
are: Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara, Priest, Founder of the Congregation of the Carmelites
of the Blessed Virgin Mary Immaculate; born in Kainakary (Kerala, India) February
10, 1805 and died in Koonammavu (Kerala, India) January 3, 1871; and Blessed Euphrasia
of the Sacred Heart (nee Rosa Eluvathingal), professed sister of the Congregation
of the Sisters of the Mother of Carmel; born in the village of Kattoor (Kerala, India)
October 17, 1877 and died in Ollur (Kerala, India) August 29, 1952.
