Church expresses nearness to victims and families on World Autism Day
April 02,2014: On World Autism Day observed on Wednesday 2nd April,
the Catholic Church expressed its support, and nearness to the victims of autism
spectrum disorders and to their families, who everyday share in that experience. Cardinal
Zygmunt Zimowski, President of the Pontifical Council for Health Pastoral Care in
his message for the Day, expressed the Church’s concern and solidarity, so that
those affected do not feel isolated, and called for a pathway of integration that
breaks down the barriers established by prejudice. He also called for fostering a
true understanding and acceptance of this illness, which never denies or undermines
the dignity with which every person is clothed. The theme of this Seventh World
Autism is “The Hope that comes from Cooperation and Trust”. Finally, drawing attention
that the Church intends to pay to this work of support and renewed promotion of hope
in the field of autism spectrum disorders , Cardinal Zimowski said a conference
organized by the Pontifical Council is scheduled to take place in November on the
theme “Autism, an Illness with many faces: Generating Hope”. Source: Sedoc
